Strategic Investment and Addition of Former Veritas Founding CEO Strengthens Vera’s Position as the Leader in Next Generation Data Security
PALO ALTO, Calif. May 10, 2016 – Vera (vera.com), today announced that founder, chairman and former CEO of Veritas Software, Mark Leslie, will join Vera’s board of directors. This announcement comes as the company recently closed a strategic investment from Capital One Growth Ventures to its oversubscribed series B funding round, bringing Vera’s total capital raised to $35M. Capital One augments Vera’s February 2016 financing round, led by Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from existing investors Battery Ventures and Amplify Partners.
“With the growing use of cloud and mobile in the enterprise, the traditional sense of a ‘perimeter’ around a company’s information is disappearing, making true data-centric security increasingly vital,” said Adam Boutin, of Capital One Growth Ventures. “Vera has built an elegant solution for securing data through its entire lifecycle, while allowing users and administrators much greater access, control, and visibility. We are thrilled to invest in Vera and have been impressed with their team and their ability to build a solution that balances complex functionality with ease-of-use.”
“Protecting information and highly sensitive data is a must have, not a nice to have, for businesses today,” said Leslie. “Other security startups have made similar pitches, but there was something profoundly different about Vera. Vera is leading a new class of security startups working globally to secure data in a completely new way, but what I was most impressed by was the caliber of customers and the rapid adoption of Vera’s technology. These are the early market indicators that signal strong potential for success and I’m pleased to join Vera’s board at this exciting time.”
As the former CEO of three Silicon Valley startups, including Veritas Software where he was also a founder, Leslie has been involved in technology in Silicon Valley for more than 30 years. Serving as managing director of Leslie Ventures, he brings an impressive track record, investing in market leading companies like Pure Storage, Big Switch Networks, and Nutanix, all innovators that are challenging the titans of computing, networking, and storage. As a member of Vera’s board of directors, Leslie will help guide the company’s mission to become the trusted standard for securing and sharing all forms of business information.
“A legendary advisor to some of the Valley’s brain trust and leading enterprise companies, Mark has done it all,” said Ajay Arora, CEO and co-founder of Vera. “He’s actively earned the nickname the ‘Godfather’ of modern enterprise SaaS sales and I’m honored to welcome him to our board. Mark only works with a select few fast-growth, high-potential companies and we’re thrilled to be amongst those he’s chosen. Coupled with Capital One’s’ strategic investment and involvement, we are well positioned to strengthen our leadership in this exciting new market.”
Since the company’s public launch in April 2015, Vera has experienced tremendous growth, adding more than a quarter million users at Fortune 500 companies in the financial services, media and entertainment, manufacturing, and technology sectors. In addition to Mr. Leslie joining the board, Andy Zambito joins Vera today as Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Zambito brings an exceptional pedigree of success as a strong and formidable sales leader.
